Mongla Port is located in the southwestern Bangladesh of Bagerhat district. It is the second largest sea port in the country. It is located 48 kilometers south of Khulna city.
The port was established on 1 December 1950. It is located on the banks of river Pusu and Mongla in Selabonia mouza of Rampal upazila of Bagerhat district. It is located 62 miles (100 kilometers) north of the Bay of Bengal and is connected to the main internal river ports and railway terminals in Khulna.
This port is developed from the navigable 11 miles (18 km) of the river. When the port was open for anchor on December 11, 1950, a British merchant ship anchored the first port. Since Mongla is more convenient for ocean shipping anchor, the port was shifted to Mongla in 1954.
Then the Mongla port became known as Chalna for a long time. During the Pakistan period, the administration of Mongla port was entrusted to a port director whose head office was in Khulna city. After the lost depth of the maritime shipping movement, later the port was closed frequently, especially since 1980, and once it was excavated, it was again open for the ship anchor.

The port has connections with almost all major ports of the world, although most of the ships come from Asia, the Middle East, Australia, Europe and North America. Occasionally some ships come from Latin America or African countries.
At present, the port is open for 24 hours, and can be reached for a ship of up to 225 meters in the ship. Every year, about 400 ships ship anchorage in this port and the import and export of an average of 3 million metric tons of products per year is completed.
The port has 11 ships, 7 shades and 8 warehouses for the loading and discharge of goods. There are 12 floating anchors in the depths of the river. The Mongla Port Authority on Hiron Point has built a rest house for sailors.
On 1 December 1950, the country's second seaport, the port of Bandana, started in Mongla, Bagerhat. When the port was open for anchor on December 11 of that year, British merchant ships anchored the port first.
